Dog Breed Characteristics
Grooming
Braque Saint-Germain has a short coat that comes in dull white with orange markings. Weekly brushing will be enough to keep their coat healthy and to keep this dog looking good.
Since these dogs have droopy ears, you should be very careful and check them regularly. They are prone to developing an ear infection, and because of that, weekly check their ears for any signs of infections – bad odor, redness, wax build-up, etc.
With these dogs, the rest is basic care. Trim their nails if the dog doesn’t wear them naturally, bathe them a few times a year, and brush their teeth so they secure fresh breath and healthy gums.
Exercise
Braque Saint-Germain dogs are very active, and they will enjoy all fun daily activities. You can take them on long walks, play with them in the house or throw them ball outside – whatever you choose, your dog will enjoy and be happy. If their daily physical needs are met, you will have the most lovable dog with whom you will not have any problems.
Socialization
One of the best things you could do for your dog is to start socializing them as soon as possible. This process shouldn’t be a problem because Braque Saint-Germain is very friendly and love the company and playing with other dogs.
Expose your dog to many different people, dogs, sights, and situations to secure a well-rounded dog. Because they are herding dogs and have a high prey drive, even with the right training and socialization, these dogs will not be able to resist going after a rabbit or squirrel. They can adapt to any environment as long as you secure them with plenty of physical and mental activity.
Braque Saint-Germain and kids
Braque Saint-Germain is an excellent choice for families with kids, and it will be a great playing partner for them. Braque Saint-Germain is best suited for a household with older kids who knows how to properly interact with the dog. Take note that no matter how good your dog is, you should never leave him alone with kids so any unwanted behavior wouldn't emerge.
Braque Saint-Germain and other animals
Braque Saint-Germain gets along with other dogs and enjoys their company. With proper socialization, you don't have to worry that your dog will become aggressive or wouldn't get along with other dogs. Since this is a hunting dog in some cases, Braque Saint-Germain can start chasing smaller animals.
Health
Braque Saint-Germain is a healthy dog breed with a life expectancy of 12-15 years. To be sure that you will end up with the best possible dog regarding health, always buy him from responsible and official dog breeders. Because they regularly test their breeding dogs, you can be sure that their puppies won’t have any inherited diseases.
Always ask to see the results of tests from the puppy’s parents.
