Akita is the largest Japanese breed in the spitz family. Akita is a powerful, muscular and well-proportioned dog, recognizable by its rich, thick fur and heavy, strong head with a short muzzle. At its very beginnings, Akita was bred exclusively for fighting and hunting large animals, and today it has been proclaimed a national treasure in Japan.
