Spanish Hound - Sabueso Español is a dog breed from the Iberian Peninsula. They were bred for working purposes, to hunt hares, wild boars, bears, wolves, deer, and foxes. They are extremely active dogs with great stamina. Spanish Hounds require a lot of space to run or else your dog can become destructive and develop behavior problems.

These are primarily hunting dogs but with the right socialization and proper training, they can adapt to family life and be good pets.

Grooming

Spanish Hounds have a short, smooth, and dense coat that requires weekly brushing. With regular brushing, you will keep their coat clean and healthy. These dogs come in white and orange colors.

The rest is basic care. Spanish Hound will also require regular teeth cleaning and bathing like any other dog. Weekly check their ears for any sign of infection or bad odor indicating an infection. Their nails need to be trimmed if you hear them clicking on the floor.

Since they have droopy ears, there is a higher possibility that these dogs will develop ear infections.

Exercise

Spanish Hounds dogs are very active, and they will enjoy all fun daily activities. You can take them on long walks, play with them in the house or throw them ball outside – whatever you choose, your dog will enjoy and be happy. If their daily physical needs are met, you will have the most lovable dog with whom you will not have any problems.

Socialization

Since this is a hunting dog breed, early socialization is a must. From the moment you bring your Spanish Hound home, start the socialization process. That way, you can be sure that your dog will develop into a well-behaved dog with whom you will not have any problems later in life.

The best thing you can do is to expose your dog to many different situations, people, dogs, animals and sounds so they can learn how to properly react. You can even socialize with your dog at home: dress differently and act differently so that your dog can’t recognize you right away.

Health

They are generally healthy dogs but can be prone to health problems. To be sure that your dog will not develop any inherited diseases, we advise you to only buy it from a responsible and official dog breeder.

Those breeders regularly perform various health tests on their breeding dogs so they can be sure that their puppies will not develop inherited problems.

Spanish Hound breeders

Spanish Hounds are not so popular dogs around the world, so you must be prepared that you will have to wait for your puppy if you decide that this is the best dog for you. While searching for breeders, always find the good ones, and if you do so, you don’t have to worry that your dog will end up with inherited diseases. While talking to breeders, always ask them to show you the health certificates of their dogs.

Since this is an active dog, you will have to provide them with a lot of activities. If you are not a very active person, we advise you to search for different less active dog breeds. That way, you won’t end up with a dog who will be unhappy because his physical needs are not met.
