Dog Breed Characteristics
Grooming
Bucovina Shepherd needs a lot of grooming to keep them looking good. They are heavy shedder, and you must be prepared for a lot of hair around the house. Weekly brushing will help you keep the hair under control and keep the coat without mats and tangles.
Bucovina Shepherd coat colors:
- Clear white with white-beige and distinct patches of grey, black, or black with red-fawn
Brush their teeth at least three times a week to prevent tartar buildup and infections. Ensure you use products that are made especially for dogs as human products could potentially harm them. Trim their nails if they don’t wear them down naturally.
A good indication is if you can hear them clicking on the floor while they walk. Clean their ears and check for signs of redness or infections. Use a cotton cloth and never insert anything in their ear canal.
Exercise
To prevent your dog from being pushy or dominant, you must start with the training early. Without the right training, they can become aggressive, and you can have a lot of problems.
Socialization
Like any other dog breed, the Bucovina Shepherd should start the socialization process immediately. Dogs that are not well socialized are prone to behavioral problems and might react badly to situations they are not familiar with.
There are many ways you can socialize your Bucovina Shepherd, and the most important thing to do is to get your dog familiar with the different situations they can find themselves in.
Bucovina Shepherd and the kids
Bucovina Shepherds are an excellent choice for families with kids, and they will be great playing partners for them. Remember that no matter how good your dog is, you should never leave him alone with kids so any unwanted behavior wouldn't emerge.
These are big dogs, and you must supervise their playtime since these dogs could easily unintentionally knock over a child and hurt them.
Bucovina Shepherd and other animals
Bucovina Shepherds are not the best choice if you have other dogs in the house. Although with the right socialization, they can learn to get along, they are best suited to be the only dog in the house.
These dogs could perceive smaller animals as prey, and because of that, it is not advised that you have smaller animals in the house living with this dog.
Health
Bucovina Shepherds have a life expectancy of 10-12 years. They are generally healthy dogs but can be prone to health problems. These problems include:
- Hip dysplasia
- Elbow dysplasia
- Gastric dilatation volvulus
To be sure that your dog will not develop any inherited diseases, we advise you to only buy it from a responsible and official dog breeder. Those breeders regularly perform various health tests on their breeding dogs so they can be sure that their puppies will not develop inherited problems.
