Dog Breed Characteristics
Grooming
Hanoverian Scenthound has a short, thick, and coarse coat that requires minimal grooming. Weekly brushing is enough for these dogs to look good. With regular brushing, you will remove dead hair from your dog and keep their coat clean.
Hanoverian Scenthound coat colors:
- Light to dark deer-red
Since these dogs have droopy ears, you should be very careful and check them regularly. They are prone to developing ear infections and because of that weekly check their ears for any signs of infections – bad odor, redness, wax build-up, etc.
With these dogs, the rest is basic care. Trim their nails if the dog doesn’t wear them out naturally, bathe them a few times a year, and brush their teeth so they secure fresh breath and healthy gums.
Exercise
Hanoverian Scenthound is an active breed that requires a lot of activities to be happy. They were bred for working purposes, and because of that, they are not the best fit for apartment living. They need a lot of space where they can wander around and spend their energy.
It is not uncommon for these dogs to work for hours without taking a break and because of that fact if you want to have a happy dog you will have to meet their needs.
Socialization
Since this is a hunting dog breed, early socialization is a must. From the moment you bring your Hanoverian Scenthound home, start the socialization process. That way you can be sure that your dog will develop into a well-behaved dog with whom you will not have any problems later in life.
Hanoverian Scenthound and kids
As a pet, the Hanoverian Scenthound can be wonderful. They get along great with all family members and love spending time with them. Especially they love kids, and they can be great playing partners for them.
No matter how good your dog is you should never let them play without supervision, so any unwanted behavior would emerge (nipping, tail pulling, etc.)
Hanoverian Scenthound and other animals
These dogs can get along with other dogs and smaller animals if they are properly introduced from an early age, but they prefer to be solo pets in the household.
Health
Hanoverian Scenthounds are generally healthy dogs, but like most of the dog breeds in the world, they can suffer from some health problems. Those problems include:
- Hip dysplasia
- Elbow dysplasia
- Bloat
- Cancer
If you want to get a puppy with the best possible health, you should never buy him from an irresponsible dog breeder. Official and responsible dog breeders regularly check their breeding dogs, and they will not breed dogs if there is a possibility that the puppies will end up with inherited diseases.
Hanoverian Scenthound breeders
If you made a decision that this is the right dog for you, now it’s time to find Hanoverian Scenthound breeders. To be sure that you will end up with the healthiest dog possible, we advise you to search only for responsible Hanoverian Scenthound breeders.
That way you can be sure that the puppy will have the best possible start in life. Buying a dog from an official dog breeder will cost you more money in the start, but when you know that they will be healthy and that will have a good temperament it is worth it.
Hanoverian Scenthounds are not so popular dogs around the world so you must be prepared that you will have to wait for your puppy if you decide that this is the best dog for you.
