Grooming

These dogs come in three coat variants: long, medium, and short. Grooming needs depend on the length of their coat. The longer the hair, the more brushing, and grooming it should get. Caucasian Shepherd Dog has a coarse and long outer coat and a fine and soft undercoat.

These dogs come in a variety of colors, including cream, grey, fawn, tan, and in some cases, solid white. During shedding season, you should brush your dog daily to keep the amount of hair under control. Taking care of such a big dog is not an easy task, so many people decide to take their dog to professionals to do the job.

Regular bathing will also help to keep hair under control and secure that their coat is healthy.

The rest is basic care: trim their nails if they grow too big, brush their teeth to prevent gum diseases, and check their ears for any signs of infections.

Exercise

This dog will be most happy if he has a yard to explore. They don’t have a high amount of energy so daily walks should be enough to keep him in good shape. He will enjoy playing outdoors or extended walks and even hiking.

Socialization

Caucasian Shepherd Dog is not the best choice for first-time owners. These are strong dogs that require a firm owner who will know how to take care of such a dog. Caucasian Shepherd Dogs are naturally very distrustful of strangers and other dogs and animals, and because of that, proper socialization is required. The best time to start is when your puppy is still young so he can learn how to react in different situations.

These are very intelligent dogs, that will protect their family and property no matter what, and you must keep that in mind if you decide to get him. Take note that it may be difficult for you to invite people over to your home. Although they are highly intelligent, they are also very stubborn, and that makes training them a bit harder, but with the proper way, you can get it done.

Caucasian Shepherd Dog and kids

With the kids in his own family, the Caucasian Shepherd Dog is extremely good, and they will get along. He will be their protector and will be an excellent playmate. You must be very careful if you let your dog around strange kids because he could easily start playing ruff, and because of his massive size, he could easily knock or hurt the kids.

Also, if the kids are playing and he senses that kid from his own family is in trouble, he will try and protect him. That is why it's extremely important that you supervise every play between dogs and kids. However, before you let them play, you should be sure that kids are taught how to play properly and interact with the dog so that some unwanted behavior wouldn't happen.

Caucasian Shepherd Dog and other animals

This is a very territorial dog breed, and although he can get along with other animals if they are raised together in the same household, they are best suited for homes without other pets. With strange animals and dogs, he will be dominant, and in most cases, they will not get along, so you should always be very careful while walking your dog.
