The Great Dane is a German dog breed of domestic type known for its enormous size. In the 19th century, this breed was named "German boarhound" in English translation. Some German breeders tried to rename it "German Dogge" and "German Mastiff" across the United Kingdom, trying to achieve the breeds status as a luxury breed and not a working breed.
