Spanischer Windhund

Spanish Greyhound or Galgo is an ancient breed, named for the Gauls, a Celtic tribe that lived in the Iberian Peninsula the sixth century BC. The breed was originally brought to Spain by noble persons but after decades of theft and indiscriminate breeding by the lower classes, Galgo was and still is viewed as a "trash dog˝. Galgos are widely used by hunters in the rural areas of Spain for both hunting and hare coursing with betting. They are considered disposable and when the short hunting season ends each year, tens of thousands are abandoned or brutally killed by their owners to whom they are no longer of use.
