The Basset Hound is a short-legged dog breed of the hound type. The Basset is a scent hound whose purpose was hunting rabbits and other small animals. Their keen sense of smell and ability to ground-scent is second only to the Bloodhound. Basset Hounds are one of 6 recognised basset-type breeds in France. Basset Hounds are usually bicolours or tricolours of standard hound colouration.
