American Foxhound

The American Foxhound is a dog breed that is a closely related to the English Foxhound. They are scent hounds, bred to track and hunt mostly foxes by scent. The American Foxhound has originated in the states of Maryland and Virginia, and is the state dog of Virginia. In 1886 the breed was first recognized by the American Kennel Club. Today, there are many different strains of American Foxhound, including Walker, Calhoun, Goodman, Trigg, July and Penn-Marydel. Although each strain looks a little bit different, they are all recognized as members of the same breed.
